It may not seem like it because it is not an in-your-face condition. But don't doubt it for a second. There are probably many people around you who also suffer from diabetes, especially type 2. This is especially true if you live in a Western society.

However, you may be a non-traditional diabetic. If you share your condition with someone and that person is surprised or confused, this may be a sign that you are not what is considered a typical diabetic. Why? If you have type 2 diabetes and it confuses people when you share it with them; it could be because you are young. Historically speaking, type 2 diabetes affects almost exclusively the elderly population. In younger communities, it has always been typing 1 diabetes, which is why it is also known as juvenile-onset diabetes

If you are caught somewhere in the middle, it will be confusing for many people; especially if you are in your twenties or even younger.

There is an unfortunate trend in modern society. We are witnessing Type 2 diabetes afflicting our youth at an unprecedented rate. People get this form of diabetes at a younger age. What was once an anomaly is now uncommon but still prevalent. If you are an unconventional diabetic, you belong to this group and, unfortunately, to this trend.

If you're a young type 2 diabetic, it's almost certain that you're overweight and eating poorly. Chances are you are consuming a lot of sugar. And it's not just lemonades, although they are a frequent cause of concern for many young diabetics.
