You may be surprised to learn that seniors are the largest and fastest growing demographic group in America. According to the last census, more than 40 million people were over 65 years of age. Those numbers are only expected to grow as the largest generation in the nation's history, the Baby Boomers, enter their golden years.

As wonderful as it is that people are living longer, increasing life expectancy has numerous economic consequences. For the average American family, this often means paying others to help their aging family members.  And whether they receive that care in a nursing home or an assisted living facility, the costs can be prohibitive. That's why millions of people turn to home care services.

Aging in place

Available surveys confirm that seniors want to stay in their own residence as they age. Of course, most can't do it without a helping hand. In the beginning, it may be possible for friends and family members to pick up the slack. But when aging loved ones develop chronic health problems, such as dementia, diabetes,fastest-growing or heart disease, professional help is often needed.

Possible benefits

The main reason seniors want to age in place is independence. Most simply don't want to live by someone else's rules, no matter how well they mean. Depending on individual circumstances, it can also be much cheaper to stay under your own roof. For example, we know that nursing homes routinely charge over six thousand dollars a month. In comparison, home care services are much more affordable.
