If you find yourself in the position of caring for an elderly loved one, it can be one of the most rewarding yet challenging times of your life. Of course, each individual case will vary greatly in terms of the needs of the person needing care, possible illnesses, and other factors, but there are some common tips and tools for elder care that can be applied to almost any scenario.


Ask away. Even if you are very close to the person who needs care - whether it's a friend, relative or partner - there's no way to know exactly what their needs and wants are. When it comes to when care is required, it is important that you keep in touch with the person receiving care about what they want and how they are feeling.


For example; you may find yourself spending more time with them than necessary, and they may feel slightly humiliated by it. Ask them what exactly they need help with - it could simply be a helping hand when they go to the shops - and go from there.

Make time for yourself. It may sound like a strange thing to write about taking care of someone else in an article, but it is more than important to take care of yourself.
